Carnex Launches Battery Health Reports: Finally, Transparency for Used EV Buyers

The #1 concern for used EV buyers has always been battery health. Today, we're eliminating that uncertainty.

The Problem We're Solving

When you buy a used gas car, you know what you're getting. Check the mileage, review the service history, maybe get a pre-purchase inspection. The process is well-established.

Used EVs are different. The battery pack represents 30-50% of the vehicle's value, and until now, buyers had no reliable way to verify its condition before purchase. You're essentially buying blind on the most expensive component.

The result: Thousands of Canadians overpay for degraded batteries, or worse—avoid used EVs entirely because they can't assess the risk.

What We're Launching

Starting today, Carnex provides verified battery health reports on our EV inventory. Every listing with a battery score shows you:

  • State of Health (SOH) — The percentage of original battery capacity remaining
  • Usable Capacity — Actual kWh the battery can store
  • Cell Health Status — Whether cells are balanced and healthy
  • Range Estimate — Realistic driving range based on current capacity

No guessing. No hoping. Just data.

How It Works

We've partnered with Lyteflo, a leader in EV battery diagnostics, to professionally scan every applicable vehicle in our inventory.

The process:

  1. Professional Scan — Lyteflo's diagnostic tools connect to the vehicle's battery management system
  2. Data Extraction — Cell voltages, capacity metrics, and health indicators are recorded
  3. Verification — Results are validated and timestamped
  4. Display — The battery score appears directly on our listing page

When you see a battery health badge on a Carnex listing, you know it's been professionally verified—not estimated, not guessed.

Why This Matters

For Buyers

Confidence: You know exactly what you're buying. A Tesla Model 3 showing 92% SOH means you're getting 92% of the original range capability. Simple.

Fair Pricing: Battery health directly impacts value. Now you can verify that a premium price reflects a premium battery—or negotiate accordingly.

Peace of Mind: No more wondering if you overpaid or got lucky. The data is right there.

For the Used EV Market

Battery anxiety is the single biggest barrier to used EV adoption. By making battery health transparent, we're:

  • Building trust in the used EV market
  • Helping quality vehicles command fair prices
  • Giving buyers confidence to make the switch to electric

What the Data Shows

After scanning hundreds of vehicles, we've found that most used EVs perform better than buyers fear:

  • Average SOH for 3-5 year old Teslas: 91-94%
  • Typical annual degradation: 2-3% for well-maintained vehicles
  • Vehicles exceeding expectations: The majority

The batteries in modern EVs are remarkably durable. The problem was never the technology—it was the lack of transparency.

See It in Action

Visit our battery health page to see a sample report and understand what each metric means. Then browse our inventory to find verified vehicles.

Every vehicle with a battery score badge has been professionally scanned. Look for it when shopping.

This Is Just the Beginning

Battery transparency is the first step. We're building toward a future where buying a used EV is as straightforward as buying any other vehicle—maybe easier.

Because when you have the data, you can make the right decision.
